Belmonde completes $1 billion Gold Coast masterplanned community

One of the Gold Coast’s original masterplanned communities was officially completed after almost 20 years in development by Belmonde Property Group.

The final stage in Emerald Lakes, 125 two and three bedroom hillside villas called The Residences, were completed in 2018 and brought to a close the $1 billion mixed-use community.

Originally the site of the Surfers Paradise International Raceway, and later bought by Japanese billionaire Toshiaki Ogasawara, the community now houses over 1,800 residents and provides a range of leisure, retail and commercial choices.

Belmonde Managing Director Todd Brown says the completion of The Residences marked a milestone in the development and for the company as it completed one of the largest communities on the Gold Coast.

“Emerald Lakes started in 1999 and has continued to be popular choice for people wanting a home in a central location with access to a range of world-class facilities,” Mr Brown says.

“Within the community there is a Graham Marsh designed 18 hole championship golf course, a 37-hectare lake and 13 kilometres of walking and cycling tracks.

“There is also a range of retail and commercial options, with the community home to a number of vibrant businesses.

“However its central location, with easy access to beaches, the M1 and north south arterials is what really makes it unique.”

Belmonde commenced development in the masterplanned community in 2013 with The Islands, 130 terrace-style waterfront townhouses, before starting work on the hilltop stage of The Residences and the 83-villa The Harbour waterfront precinct.

The Residences was the final stage.

Mr Brown says it was extremely rewarding for his company to close out the development and bring to a conclusion an iconic community.

“We’ve had such an incredible history with Emerald Lakes as it was our first foray into the Queensland market,” Mr Brown says.

“While original parts of the development were built for their time, we’ve managed to keep one step ahead of the market with an evolving range of product to meet a maturing city.

“This includes our focus on villa products which gives the best of spacious living in an urban environment for people seeking a balance of a doorstep lifestyle and centrality to all the Gold Coast has to offer.”

Emerald Lakes has quickly emerged as a destination in its own right, with restaurants, cafés, a medical centre and pharmacy, convenient shopping and a weekly farmers market offering gourmet and organic produce.
